How to Get an ECTN Number?

To get your ECTN number, you must first submit your required shipping documents to AfricaCTN. These documents are the bill of lading, commercial invoice, freight invoice and sometimes the customs declaration. Please check with AfricaCTN to confirm the required documents for your destination country.

One the application process has begun, AfricaCTN will issue the draft CTN and invoice. You will confirm the draft, pay the invoice and the final validation will be released. Depending on the destination country, the ECTN number may not be released until the final waiver is validated, otherwise we can provide it as soon as the draft is issued.

NOTE: Some shipping lines require the ECTN number to be noted on the bill of lading regardless of the destination countries requirements. It is important to begin the application process early to prevent any issues or delays.

Summary

The ECTN is a requirement that all shippers and freight forwarders should be aware of when shipping to countries in Africa such as Benin, Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and more. A validated CTN Certificate and its respective ECTN number is critical to ensure smooth customs clearance by the port authorities.
